Erosion controls, also known as best management practices (BMPS.) They are installed at the beginning of earth-disturbing activities to assure environmental compliance and eliminate storm water runoff from construction sites.

BMPs can include installation of silt fence, straw, and/or hay bales, temporary​ or permanent drainage swales/ponds and permanent stabilization such as erosion mats, and vegetation.
